I just installed Corllete Lab Gallery v2.04, set cache and pics as writable, but when I try to create a category I get this message.

e107 [sgallery] said: Bad folder name. Access denied

Is there any documentation I should be reading to install this?

Well now it just started working and I didn't do anything to it.

Hm, your gallery version number? It's inner security check for suspicious folder names.

I zapped(dbase term I don't know current term) the db and started again. I'm thinking the admin hadn't set the folder permissions right after I told him too. I'm thinking he had that 2 hour delay brain to finger typing syndrome. Works great now.

Yeah I too am facing a similar problem. Could anyone give me a list of Permission that I need to set the folders to?

This shouldn't be permission problem. Can you tell me if your folder is created?
Normally you need only chmod 0777 to pics/ folder. The rest is done by the script. The problems come when PHP safe mod is enabled - the worst ever PHP feature (I'm happy it'll be gone with PHP6)
