I would like to make my image gallery more run by the members of my site.

I have one category created. How do I get the main link on my site, to link directly into that category so you are starting off in the galleries that are created by the users?

Administration - Front Page - All users - Edit and choose the category you wish or just "user's albums" - it's your choice.
If you wish to not make Gallery front page of your site just go to Administration - site links and enter direct link to your gallery category.
